Barren

I feel the grit of the naked sand

As waves of heat linger

Across the desert plain

The wind now still

Finds no place to go,

The land is barren

And I stand here

The earth cracked,

Laid open, and wanting

Is waiting

Satiated sentinels from a far, they come

Gathered in formation, mighty warriors

Have mercy

And I stand here

Cool droplets fall upon parched lips

Removing the bitter taste

Of paradise

And I stand here

Exposed.
