The Key

In his hand lay the key

Forgetting all that was

Escaping in silent solitude

Our wave of solace within

Ending of a time not meant to be

Rambling moments, languid thoughts

Searching for justification left with fear

Unrelenting fear, for unknown

Words we wanted to say

Yet in pause, could not share

As frustration walked my way

We talked, cried in desperation

Gathering thoughts of resolution

Seeking undeniable absolution

But forgiveness was never found

Buried in his hand lay the key

As he lifted his hand to sign

Noting the correctness of

The parchment before his eyes

In stoic silence he ended our lie
